Mechanical Engineer (Hazardous Chemical Systems)

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with a background in Hazardous Chemical Systems controls. In this role you will play a pivotal role involving the management, operation and maintenance of complex chemical distribution systems, ensuring safety, reliability, and operational excellence at all times.

Our client are a leading Engineering solutions company specialising in project management, construction, and commissioning across Ireland and the USA, who partner to numerous blue-chip companies across multiple sectors, including semiconductor, automotive, MedTech, and Data Centre.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage chemical control systems and the flow of chemicals
  • Exercise authority to halt operations in the event of unsafe practices or risks.
  • Schedule tasks and approve works on critical systems
  • Demonstrate unwavering commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence.
  • Manage system reliability and availability, minimising downtime and associated risks.
  • Assume primary ownership of chemical systems, including transfer systems and pumps, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to address system challenges.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently and work autonomously with initiative.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team environment and deliver outstanding customer service.
  • Present and explain technical data to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide support for projects, incident resolution, and cross-functional teams.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Marine, or similar discipline.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar Engineering role.
  • Experience in Facilities/Utilities (HVAC, AHU’s, Boilers, Pumping systems, Process Delivery Systems, etc.).
  • Knowledge of high purity Gas or Chemical manufacturing/delivery systems is advantageous.
  • Experience in interpreting Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within diverse team environments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a structured approach.
