Our client is on the lookout for a is seeking a skilled Linguist to join their team. As a Linguist, you will be responsible for performing linguistic analyses on large datasets, conducting typological and sociolinguistic research on a large number of languages, and analysing the quality of vendor deliveries.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct linguistic analyses on extensive datasets.
  • Perform error analysis of AI model outputs, identifying prevalent and significant error categories.
  • Develop and refine guidelines for human annotation and translation projects.
  • Engage in typological and sociolinguistic research across numerous languages, emphasizing commonalities and distinctions.
  • Execute linguistic analyses for Responsible AI in highly multilingual environments, addressing issues such as toxic language, hate speech, and cultural biases.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews on NLP-related subjects and synthesize key findings.
  • Assess the quality of vendor deliveries, pinpointing error trends, and offering practical feedback.
  • Offer expertise on various aspects of linguistic knowledge (typology, morpho-syntax, sociolinguistics, etc.).
  • Collaborate with native speakers across different languages.
  • Communicate findings from linguistic analyses effectively to engineers and research scientists.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Degree in Linguistics or Translation degree with focus on Linguistics
  • Must be at a level of native or near-native proficiency (CEFRL C2) in a language other than English.
  • Must be able to code in Python (must) and query databases using SQL, other coding languages used for data analysis (e.g., R) are a plus.
  • Experience collaborating with machine learning, NLP, or software engineers, or data scientists.

Beneficial but not a must:

  • Working knowledge in additional languages is a plus. Proficiency in a low-resource or under-represented language is valued.
  • Experience contributing to research papers.
